How To Apply For Boren Scholarship 2026-2027

The Boren Scholarship (Undergraduate) and Fellowships (Graduate) are an initiative of the National Security Education Program, so all the students come and get fully funded scholarships in the USA. The Boren Scholarship provides funding for USA students to study less commonly taught languages in regions critical to USA interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East, so all the candidates who are eligible for the Boren Scholarship never miss this opportunity to study in the USA.

Boren Scholars and Fellows are highly motivated individuals who wish to work. All international students must apply to study in the USA and never miss the opportunity. Boren Awardees commit to working in the federal government for at least one year after graduation, so all the candidates must apply.

Boren Scholarship and Fellowships can be used to fund study abroad programs in any country outside of the United States, Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. All internationals are capable of this fully funded scholarship in the USA. Students work with the UI Study Abroad office and the Boren Campus Representative for all the candidates who want to study in the USA.

Boren Scholarships and Fellowships are awarded preference for countries, languages, and fields of study (social sciences) critical to U.S. national security. All the students who are capable of the Boren Scholarship never miss the opportunity to study in the USA.

SUMMARY:

Eligibility Criteria

1. A U.S. citizen at the time of application is eligible.
2. A high school graduate or someone who has earned a GED is eligible.
3. Matriculated in an undergraduate degree program located within the United States accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education are eligible.
4. Boren students must remain matriculated in their undergraduate programs until 2025 for the duration of the scholarship and may not graduate until the scholarship is completely are Those candidates are eligible.
5. Students must meet home institution standards in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand; these candidates are eligible. Boren Scholarships are not for study in the United States, so these candidates are eligible.

How to apply

For more information about applying for a Boren Award, please make an appointment with Doctor Wachsmuth by completing and returning the Preliminary Application Form to ip-grants@uiowa.edu to come and get fully funded scholarships in the USA.
